For those of you who pop over here to read my blog consistently, you know that I’m all about wearing what you already own. I try to share deals and purchases that I’ve found to be worthwhile, but I’m truly trying to embrace my closet and work towards a wardrobe that is versatile and doesn’t require new pieces every season. I’m a capsule closet wannabe and I hope to inspire others in this same vein. 😉
I’m writing this post today because I’ve spent the last 7 days working through the #WearYourCloset Challenge. I picked 7 items from my closet that I either never wear or rarely wear and committed to wear those items in some fashion over a 7 day period. If I didn’t wear an item or wore it but didn’t love it, then I committed to let that item go (i.e. give it away). Sounds like fun right?
How I Picked My 7 Items
Many of you have heard me talk about Cladwell before, but I’m going to share again. Cladwell is an app that allows you to log your outfits each day. It then shows you stats based on your outfits (i.e. which items you wear the most, which items you rarely wear, what percentage of your closet you wear, as well as outfit inspiration if you’re having trouble deciding what to wear).
Did you know you can follow me on Cladwell? Just search “Becca @drivingmissmacey” once you download the app and follow along with my daily looks!
When planning for this challenge, I went into my Cladwell app and peeked at all the items listed as unworn in my closet. I then selected 7 items from there. I’ll share those with you now.
My 7 Items
From right to left, top to bottom:
1. Anthropologie Burnt Orange Turtleneck Tunic
2. Lou & Grey T-Shirt Dress
3. Loft Mixed Media Sweater Blouse
4. Floral Tunic Dress
5. Loft Black & Grey Jacket Cardigan
6. Forever 21 Patterned Vest Cardigan
7. Cloth & Cabin Tan Peplum Top
*These are all older items so I have linked similar items at the very bottom of this post in case you’d like to shop the looks!
This challenge was put on by Encircled (a Canadian brand committed to streamlining your closet) and each day they would put out a style tip that you could try to incorporate to help you style a particular piece. I’ll share each tip along with the outfit I styled below!
7 Days Of Outfits
Day 1: Floral Dress
Style Tip: “Flip the script” by dressing a casual item up or dressing a fancy item down.
Because I’m pregnant, I ended up wearing this dress as more of a tunic with black jeans and slides. Then I added a sweatshirt cardigan in order to “flip the script” and dress this piece down.
Verdict: LET IT GO. I liked the outfit and was comfortable but I decided to let this piece go. I didn’t love wearing it enough to let it stay in my wardrobe.
Day 2: Orange Turtleneck Tunic
Style Tip: “Layer up” by using a tunic to give length to a shorter shirt.
VERDICT: Keep it! I chose to layer this tunic top under one of my favorite classic black sweaters. I love how the look turned out!
Day 3: Patterned Vest Cardigan
Style Tip: “Change the silhouette” by adding a belt, scarf, or blazer/cardigan to change up the proportions of the look.
VERDICT: Let it go. I loved the way this look turned out but I still don’t think I’ll love it enough to wear it enough.
Day 4: Peplum Top
Style Tip: Try monochromatic
VERDICT: Keep it! I love this top and just forgot how much I really do like it. It’s a keeper!
Day 5: Jacket Cardigan
Style Tip: The style tip didn’t apply to me today so I did my own thing. The tip was wearing boots or socks in order to make cropped pants work in the winter time.
VERDICT: Keeping it! I had a hard time deciding on this one but I truly think I’d regret it if I got rid of this piece. I’m promising myself to wear it more.
Day 6: Mixed Media Blouse
Style Tip: Add accessories to add a pop of color or interest.
VERDICT: Keep it! Ok, I went a little off script with this style tip – I decided overalls would be a fun “accessory” to this look. I usually wear this top to church so this look is a fun casual take on the top and I loved it!
Day 7: T-Shirt Dress:
VERDICT: Keep it. I don’t love this dress on while pregnant (currently 25 weeks) because it hugs my hips more than I’d like, but I don’t want to get rid of it because I know I’ll wear it a bunch postpartum.
