Well, the end of August marked the end of my third month as a mom! On one hand, it seems like forever since I was in labor and admitted to the hospital, but on the other hand it feels like time is just flying by (#welcometomotherhoodBecca). Looking back, some things seem quite blurry while other moments I remember vividly (like the first time Macey latched without issue, the first time she let out her hilarious cough/cackle, her first bath at home, etc.). There are also a few items that stick out in my mind as super important in those first few months. I thought I’d list a few of those items in case they might be helpful for other new moms.
I already have a horrible memory, but add a few sleepless nights into the mix and I’m a complete lost cause. The Baby Tracker App helped me keep track of Macey’s nursing schedule, sleep schedule, and diaper changes. This helped me easily determine what she might need when she was fussy (i.e. a boob, a diaper change, or a nap). It also allowed my husband and me to appropriately celebrate her first full night sleep… yes, all 7 hours and 32 minutes! Seriously, this app is a life saver and a piece-of-mind giver. AND IT’S FREE. Probably time to go download it.
2. Snuzzler Infant Support for Car Seats and Strollers
We selected a Graco car seat for Macey and we love it. However, the infant insert that came with the seat was less than helpful when it came to supporting Macey’s neck (as pictured on the left below). I quickly realized that we were going to need a solution before our one-week-old developed neck issues. The Snuzzler came to our rescue (as evidenced by the picture on the right)! Hallelujah!
3. Disposable Nursing Pads (I love the Lansinoh brand)
Every mom I’ve ever talked to has a different breastfeeding story. For me, breastfeeding involved constant leakage, soaked shirts, engorgement, and because of all this, a fear of leaving the house. These nursing pads gave me the confidence to leave the house without worrying about bringing a change of clothes or 300 towels. They’re amazing. Perfect for everyday wear but they also helped me contain leakage at night and saved me from washing the sheets ever day. If you relate to any of this, get yourself a box of these nursing pads pronto.
4. HALO Fleece SleepSack (also in Cotton)
I don’t know about your baby, but ours was born with some fierce determination. Her first victory: breaking out of the standard swaddle (no matter how tight)! The HALO Swaddle helped us keep her wrapped up tight throughout the night.
5. Boppy Nursing Pillow (Floral Cover)
Breastfeeding was hard to get a handle on. This nursing pillow allowed me to use both hands to help Macey latch instead of trying to hold her with one hand and latch with the other. Huge help!
That’s a wrap! I hope this was helpful.
Do you have any items that helped you survive the first few months with baby? I’d love to hear from you! Leave me a comment below.
XO,
Becca
