I’m not a fan of waiting. At my very core I am the most impatient person. I blame Prime. For this reason I typically only like DIY projects that are quick, easy, and cute! You will rarely see a DIY project on this blog that involves multiple days or weeks of work, waiting, or learning. You’re welcome. ๐
One of my favorite past projects was this DIY calligraphy globe. It all started because my little sister was going into her first year of teaching and I wanted to get her a gift. The quote “changing the world one child at a time” kept popping up so I decided to make something for her desk with that quote in mind. She loved it so much that I decided to make a “happy moving” present for a coworker who was moving from South Africa to the United States. These are such meaningful gifts and easy to make!
In my searching, I came across these adorable globes on Amazon (2 for $14)!
Sidebar: As I’m writing this post, the particular globes that I usedย are out of stock but I’m including the link in case they come back in stock when you’re reading this. However here, and here, and here, are a few additional globes that would also work and are in a good price range.
So I waited *ugh* for my globes to arrive (yes, a whole two Prime days) and in the meantime I gathered my other supplies: chalk paint, paint brushes, and chalk pens. I used the Martha Stewart Black Multi-Surface Chalk Paintย but if you’re not up for going to the craft store I’ve heard great things about this chalk paint available on Amazon. For these types of projects I also use pretty cheap paint brushes.ย Here are the ones I used, fancy…I know (another option here). For pens, I’m also pretty simple. I’ve collected quite the stash over the years but my favorites are these and these.
So if you haven’t guessed already…1) paint globe and let dry, 2) write your quote or design on the globe and again, let dry. Whaaabam. You’re done!
Below I’ve included videos of both the globe I made for my sister and the globe I made for my coworker. What do you think? Is this something you would try at home?
