I love giving gifts. Cliché I know…but I do! I’ve been known to start my Christmas shopping in July because I’m a sucker for a good sale. I have boxes under my bed full of gifts I purchase just waiting for the perfect time (always on major sale!). It’s a problem, but I’m convinced that it saves me $$$ in the long run (ha!).
Today I wanted to highlight some of the best “just because” gifts I’ve sent my friends. Some of these would even make great holiday gifts! I have purchased every single one of these gifts so I can legitimately recommend them…they’re all great!
1) Homesick Candle ($34.94 – but on sale right now for $29.95!!)
Have a best friend that has moved out of town? These homesick candles are an amazing way to say “miss you” while sending a little bit of home to their new location. I sent a Washington candle to my best friend a while back who now lives in Santa Barbara and she loved it! She even said it DID in fact smell like the Pacific Northwest…so there you go – it’s legit! 🙂
2) Shiner Instagram Photo Blocks ($15/block or check here for additional pricing details. The more you buy the more you save!)
I recently discovered Shiner and I’m so excited to share them with you. They make wood blocks and print your photos on them straight from Instagram or your photo library! What I love about these blocks is that they’re so easy to display. They come with a peg you can insert into the back of the block for easy standing OR (my fav) a magnetic push-pin that makes it incredibly easy to hang on your walls. These make such great “just because” gifts because they’re an affordable, beautiful way to display special memories! Right now you can get 10% off + a free shiner by joining their mailing list! On the left (below) is a photo from Shiner’s website, and the on the right is a shot of my desk area while I was installing three of my shiners! The red dots are the magnetic tacks.
3) Sunshine Boxes
These sunshine boxes are both adorable and affordable. What a sweet way to say “I love you,” “feel better,” or “I’m thinking about you” then to send a sweet, bright box of smiles! You can DIY this gift easily but I’ve found a few shops on Etsy that make great boxes. I’ve used both of these shops before and highly recommend them! I’m also thinking I might try this box soon, so cute!
Oh Happy Day – Sunshine Box ($6)
Spread Some Sunshine Box ($30)
4) Glassybaby Votive Candle or Drinker ($50-55)
If you’re from Seattle, you know what Glassybaby is all about. If you haven’t heard of them please stop what you’re doing and go check out their website. These are beautiful, hand-blown glass votive candles that are given a unique name and meaning depending on the color. I love scrolling through the colors to find the perfect candle for someone I love. And what’s even cooler, for every Glassybaby sold, 10% of the proceeds go to the Glassybaby white light fund. So not only are you giving something beautiful to a friend, but you’re donating to an amazing cause as well. Win win! And as you can see in the photo below, they can make even the ugly XFinity cable box look cute! Check out their website to learn more about the fund. They also have a few more intricate versions of the votive candles that are slightly more expensive.
5) Wine Socks ($14)
How cute are these!? These are the perfect gift for your fav wine buddy. Pair with your favorite bottle of wine and maybe a cute wine stopper or bottle opener and you have the most adorable booze-themed gift. I purchased this gift for my sister-in-law a few Christmases ago and she loved it!
6) Personalized Monogram Mug ($8)
You can never have too many mugs! Slap a monogram on it and, boom, even better. This is a timeless gift that will get lots and lots of use!
7) Chatbooks (starting at $8!!)
I LOVE this company and have been using them for a few years. Chatbooks allows you to make adorable photo books in no time. You can pull from Instagram, Facebook, or upload photos from your camera. The best part is that you can pull captions in from Instagram, date stamp photos, and add a location. I made a book for my brother after my husband and I visited him in Ireland. I’ve also used Chatbooks to make a birth book with photos from the hospital for our daughter Macey. These books would make the perfect gift for a friend, loved one, or significant other!
Chatbooks also has an app which makes books easy to create on the go!
8) Greetabl ($9-40)
I saved one of my favorite “just because” gifts for last. Greetabl makes tiny gift boxes for any occasion (or just because, ha!). Personalize the box with photos and a message, then scroll through their gift options for mini treats to include in the box. Gift options range from $2-30 so there is always a gift to fit your budget! Greetabl also has your back when it comes to remembering birthdays (Hallelujah!). Get a free reminder from Greetabl ten days prior to a special someone’s birthday so you’ll never miss an opportunity to spoil those closest to you. Below is a picture of a Greetabl I sent to my sister-in-law when she decided to go back to school and take the next step in pursuing her nursing career – something that called for an encouraging note and CHOCOLATE. It’s really the perfect way to show someone how much you care.
Helpful tips for finding good gifts:
- Make sure you are subscribed to the mailing list for your favorite sites. For example, I’m on the mailing list at Anthropologie specifically because they always have cute gift items on sale and occasionally give additional discounts on top of sale prices. When I get an email alert that there’s a sale, and when I have some extra time, I’ll scroll through and filter by price (usually anything under $25 or $50) and snatch up the cute stuff!!! I typically have a stash that I pull from for different occasions.
- Buy off-season items that you can keep until the season comes back around. I love buying Christmas mugs that go on super sale after the holidays and using those the following year. Then during the summer, candles, or gifts of that nature, usually go on sale. I snag those up then too!
I hope these were helpful!
