As I sat down to write my goals for 2018, the first time as a parent, I couldn’t help but laugh. For starters, I’m over a month late writing these down. 😉 So there’s that. Then, where I once listed run a marathon and travel abroad for the first time I now have find a walking buddy and get a babysitter so the hubs and I can have a date night. Even though my goals this year may not feel like they stack up to goals I’ve made in the past, somehow my goals feel bigger; less about me and oddly more personal. I’m not saying that I couldn’t run another marathon if I wanted to, I’m just saying that my priorities have shifted and I’ve needed to be very particular about what I say yes to and what can wait for another time (particularly with Macey breastfeeding, teething, and almost crawling). So with this new phase in mind, I thought I’d share my 2018 goals with you. Plus, what’s better than reading a goals blog post on a random Tuesday in early February…am I right!?;)
How are your 2018 goals going? Do you make goals, or skip them all together? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear!
*I used the 7 F’s (Faith, Family, Friends, Finances, Fitness, Fun, and Fluency) as a guideline for these goals but I wanted to clarify that I got these categories from my brilliant Dad. He’s such an awesome goal setter.
2018 Goals
Faith – Invest in and rejuvenate my prayer life. I’m focusing on trying to talk to God in the car. I find this is one of the most peaceful times I have during the day and is a great chance for me to slow down and pray.
“Is your faith your steering wheel or your spare tire?”
Family – 1) Find a babysitter so J and I can have date night at least once a month. I’m happy to report that J and I did a January date night already and found a wonderful babysitter, yahoo!). 2) Do something with my Dad once a month. I made this goal last year and my Dad and I made a point to do something 1:1 together each month and it was such a special time! He and I don’t naturally have things we like to do together, like my other siblings do, so it was helpful to intentionally carve out time to spend together. I’m excited to see what this year has in store. Last year we went hiking, snow shoeing, had dinner, got foot massages together…ha, it was really fun!
“Sometimes we are so busy growing up, we forget our parents are growing old”.
Friends – J and I want to have friends over for dinner at least once per month.
“Stay close to people who feel like sunshine.”
Finances – Spend with an eternal mindset. We are still brainstorming as a family what this might look like for us. We’ve recommitted to making sure we are tithing and giving on top of that with an open hand, realizing that everything we own is ultimately not ours but God’s.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“Some women want the diamond watch, others value the time.”
Fitness – 1) Find a walking/running buddy. I used to be a pretty consistent runner so I’m working to get back into that that routine, especially because it’s so life-giving for me. 2) Plan for 20-30 minutes of something physical every day, even if it’s squats during nap time. 😉 3) Run a 5k with J.
“You gotta nourish to flourish.”
Fun – 1) Visit my grandparents in Florida. Tickets are booked! Macey and I are going in March! Can’t wait to see Grammie and Papa. 2) Coach a sport. I’m already doing this! I’m currently coaching JH girls basketball.
“Why not go out on a limb? That’s where the fruit is.” Mark Twain
Fluency (aka continued learning) – 1) Find 2-3 art classes (hand-lettering, DIY, or art classes) and sign up for them. I really need to nourish my creative side and make time for that! 2) Read. I’m going to start by getting through the stack of books on my nightstand (there are 6 total).
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
It’s pretty scary putting your goals out into the world…looks like I’m going to have to follow through on these now. 😉 Thanks for reading!

I love how you set up your girls. It’s broken down in ways that you can accomplish! What part of florida are you going? We have family down there!
