Jonathan and I chose not to find out Macey’s gender until I gave birth to her at the hospital. We loved the idea of a surprise for everyone, including us…and I joked that it would give me a little extra motivation during labor. 😉 This meant that going into the delivery room, we needed to have one boy name and one girl name. Jonathan and I are pretty traditional, so although we had a brilliant friend suggest we just pick one name that would work for either gender (so smart, haha!), we felt like we wanted whatever name we chose to be clearly one way or the other. One list of names came way easier than the other. Can you guess? Yes, boys. Boys names were so easy for us and in no time we had a list of five names that we were completely in love with! Girls names, however, were SO HARD for us!
So one night (when I was 37 weeks and 5 days to be exact) J and I decided we needed to get serious about the girls names and have at least one serious name on that list before we went to bed that night. Jonathan, in his brilliance, came up with a great idea to take a look at our boys name list and see if any of those that we loved could be morphed into girls names. He’s so smart! 😀
Mason was at the top of our boys name list – J said Mason out loud a few times and then thought…”hey what about Macy?” I immediately loved it! We didn’t like the idea of it being spelling the same way as the department store, so we added an “e” and went with Macey.

Just two days later, at 38 weeks, I went into labor! Good thing we had finally settled on a girls name because we had a girl! As soon as we saw her deep auburn red hair we knew Macey was perfect! Macey…but what about her middle name? We knew that we wanted either the first or middle name given to our baby to be a family name. So since Macey wasn’t a family name we needed a family name for her middle name. While at dinner at my parents house the night before I went into labor, we started listing off family names that might go with Macey and when we got to my sister’s middle name (also my Great Grandma’s maiden name) we knew we had found the one.

Exactly, Jamie! That’s the best when that happens!
