Macey isn’t even two years old yet and I’m already over the piles and piles of toys she’s accumulated. After expressing some frustration with this issue one of my friends told me about the Rule of Four: 1. Something they want 2. Something they need 3. Something to wear 4. Something to read. This is how they shop for their kids during the holidays. How brilliant! However, as an 18 month old, Macey isn’t quite able to express things she wants/needs so I’m taking it upon myself this year to create a list for her that is practical and MINIMAL! 😉

Today, I’ve gathered some of the suggestions I’ve sent to family when they ask what to get for Macey. I’ve also included some of the items that I’ve purchased for her already in preparation for the holiday (#3 and #4 specifically).
1. Pastries & Bread Food Crate 2. Little Sister or Hero Mouse In A Box 3. Wildbird Mini Ring Sling 4. On The Go Water Wow Books 5. Toddler Kitchen Stool 6. College Saving Fund
1. Pastries & Bread Food Crate – Velcro and a knife make for some super cute kitchen play! This one is from Pottery Barn, but Anthropologie has a few of these sets too. How cute is this smoothie kit!?
2. Little Sister or Hero Mouse In A Box – I cannot get over how precious these little mice are. The little sister lives in a match box and the super hero in a tin lunch box. They’re small, compact, and the perfect little toy to throw in your diaper bag and pull out when you need a little distraction.
3. Wildbird Mini Ring Sling – It is no secret that I love carrying Macey in my Wildbird ring sling. Well did you know they make mini ring slings so that your child can sling their favorite stuffed animal!? They do…and it’s one of the most adorable things to watch your kid enjoy. This Christmas I purchased Macey a mini ring sling to match one I have – it makes my mama heart sing!
4. On The Go Water Wow Books – Let them color with just water and NO MESS! A friend suggested these books to me when I was getting ready for a solo plane ride with Macey. These little books were a life saver! Easy to pack, easy to clean up, and super fun for Macey!
5. Toddler Kitchen Stool – I don’t know about you, but my toddler is showing more and more interest in what I’m doing in the kitchen. Allow them to safely watch and even help with this nifty kitchen stool. I have several friends who own these and swear by them! You can certainly build your own (I have a friend who did this) but this one from Amazon is a great option and a fairly decent price. Plus, if you wanted to you could stain it or paint it a custom color in order to match your style!
6. 529 College Saving Fund – My parents opened up a special account (a 529 savings plan) for Macey when she was born specifically to help fund her college career. We’ve opened this up as an option for family and friends instead of gifts. For Macey’s first birthday party we actually asked that people skip the gifts and give to this fund instead. We are going to open it back up again this Christmas for those who want to give towards that. It’s such a great way to make family feel like they are contributing to your kids future!
What are you getting your toddler for Christmas this year? I’d love to hear your ideas!
