I cannot believe 2019 is just around the corner. I’m working on my resolutions but this time of year I also like to review my resolutions from the year before. One of my biggest resolutions was to spend less on clothing, specifically I promised to not spend a dime on clothes from January 2018 – April 2018 as I shared in this post from last year. I’m happy to say, my spending overall on clothing has gone way down, and partly to a renewed appreciation for purchasing secondhand!
This NYE, I thought it would be fun and challenging to thrift my outfit! I teamed up with one of my favorite bloggers, Ruth of http://www.mylittlenest.org, to see where our creativity might takes us! To make it a little more fun, Ruth and I selected an inspiration photo from Pinterest that we both loved and would use as our muse.
This Pinterest photo was our starting point. Where we would go from here was totally up to us and our style preferences. For me, I knew I wanted my outfit to come in pieces, as opposed to a dress, because the opportunity for re-wear is greater when you buy pieces. I also have been on the hunt for a pleated black midi skirt and thought this would be a great starting piece for a NYE outfit!
Luckily, ThredUP (my favorite online consignment store) had multiple options for a pleated black skirt! After a few minutes of scrolling, I found the one, and it was only $9.99!
ThredUP is an online consignment store where you can buy, sell, and receive cash or store credit for your lightly used clothing items. If you haven’t tried them out yet, follow this link for a $10 credit!
For my top, I was looking for something with a peplum because I thought it would be a flattering piece to layer over a midi skirt. I found this gorgeous studded peplum top with sheer shoulder detail and I knew it would be perfect. Crazy enough, it’s actually from Anthropologie! I love when you can find a good quality piece for less, $11.99 to be exact!
So if you’re doing the math with me, my two piece NYE look cost me a total of $21.98!! I then added accessories I already owned: my peep toe mule heels from Shoetopia, fog backpack from Thacker NYC, some black and gold beaded bracelets, and grey diamond teardrop earrings!
To finish the look off, I threw my hair up in my favorite hairstyle: the mom bun, and boom – a fuss free NYE look!
My favorite part about this look is that I can wear both pieces in so many different ways. The peplum top would look amazing dressed down with jeans and flats or dressed up with a pencil skirt, and the midi skirt could also be worn casually with a tank top tucked in with a denim jacket or with a beautiful sweater knotted at the waist.
Here’s to a new year! Happy (almost) 2019 friends!
Cheers!
