Hi friends! Anyone still adjusting to day light savings? I’m a struggle bus today but I wanted to show you a fun little DIY I did recently with an adorable metal pumpkin from the Decocrated Fall 2021 Box!
I loved this pumpkin as-is but I wanted to modify the pumpkin to fit my decor needs at the current moment. Right now we are house hunting and we plan to move in the near future. I wanted the pumpkin to be something more neutral; something classic. The deep green color of the metal pumpkin didn’t quite fit what I needed in our current space…however it may be exactly what I need in our next space so I chose to do something more temporary!
So let’s get right to it! Here’s what you’ll need:
-yarn or string, twine, ribbon of your choice…yep, that’s it! I chose a bulky, neutral yarn this time!
Simply start at the top of the pumpkin where the wood stem is, leave enough excess string/ribbon at the top in case you want to make a bow at the end (I ended up trimming the excess later). Wrap your string tight and close around the metal, making your way downward. When you get to the bottom, make sure you wrap as far down as you can, then continue on to the next metal strip. Repeat until all the metal stripes are covered! Finish it off with a very tight double knot.
I’ll be honest, this took a while. It takes some patience to continuously wrap yarn around and around and around but trust me, it’s worth it!
What do you think…cute right? I love that you can take this simple DIY any direction you want! You can choose the color you want, the texture you want, and you can even combine colors/texture if you’re feeling crazy! 😉 But the best part? Simply undo that knot at the top and you can revert the pumpkin right back to the original, gorgeous metal pumpkin you started with.
Now to decide where this little pumpkin will be displayed this season…hm, I’m thinking either on my coffee table or mantel!
