Harrison’s first few months flew by. I can’t believe he’s over 9 lbs now (was 6lbs 4oz at birth) and two inches longer (was 19in at birth)! The hubby and I have been talking a lot about how different this newborn season has been compared to Macey and how the essentials we used for her are not the same essentials now. So today I thought I’d share with you what our favorite baby items have been for Mr. Harrison. You can see how they differ from Miss Macey by checking out my top 5 items during her first few months here.
1. Baby Carrier (Wildbird, Solly Baby)
As most of you know, I love Wildbird! The ring sling is hard to beat in my opinion because it’s not only functional and easy to wear but the slings are also beautiful! I love that they don’t pinch and squeeze all your squishy postpartum parts, too! With two kids pulling me multiple directions, these have become even more of a necessity!
2. DockATot
I’ll be honest, DockATot gifted me their Deluxe+, I did not buy it. It’s crazy expensive for a baby pillow… BUT after using it with Harrison for over a month and a half now, I’m sold. Harrison loves being snuggled up in this for naps during the day – he seems to find this most comfortable of all his places to lounge – plus, it’s easy for me to take anywhere (i.e. our bed while I fold laundry, our couch while I watch Bravo, our nursery while I’m negotiating with Macey on when she’s going to go to sleep, on our bathroom floor while I bathe Macey in the evenings, etc.) 😉 I love it so much that I wish I had had it with Macey too!
If you popped over to read my top 5 baby essentials with Macey, you might have seen this on the list. This app is by far my favorite in the early stages. It tracks feeding, diaper changes, sleep, and you can even log milestones, medications, and pumping sessions. I love it because I can hardly remember what I ate for breakfast, let alone when I last fed Harrison…especially when I’m low on sleep. Trust me on this, it’s so helpful!
My breastfeeding journey has been an interesting one. I was lucky enough to be able to breastfeed with Macey for 14 months and I hope to do the same with Harrison. However, no one told me how HARD it would be. I had an oversupply with Macey and have been having the same experience with Macey. I’m thankful because I feel much more prepared this time around now that I’ve learned how to best deal with the amount of milk I produce. So far it’s been going much better with Harrison and part of that is that I almost never pump (aka risk of over stimulating). Instead I’m using this Haakaa Manual Breast Pump which a friend recently shared with me (thanks Kim)! It allows me to express or relieve engorgement without overstimulating – check out the over 1k nearly perfect reviews it has on Amazon – trust me, it’s good!
5. Nursing Cover / Car Seat Cover
I have a love/hate relationship with this nursing cover, however, I use it constantly so I felt it had a valid place on this list. Whether it’s shading the carseat to keep Harrison out of the sun, covering a feeding session when I don’t feel like being exposed, or even bring used as burp cloth when needed…this cover goes everywhere with me and has been used in so many ways!
